KSM, founded in 2003, specializes in providing U.S. state and federal motor fuels tax Compliance, General Consulting, and Tax Technology services to clients in the oil and gas industry. Whether it's establishing or refining a return preparation process, researching tax and registration issues, or providing ease in implementation and integration of a client-selected motor fuels tax reporting or data analytics software, KSM works with clients to efficiently and effectively meet business and compliance needs. Houston-based KSM works primarily with clients in the refining and marketing industry, including refiners, traders, and terminal/pipeline operators, and clients in the natural gas industry who operate fractionation plants. Our focus and commitment to this specialty area provides a depth of knowledge in the motor fuels tax area not typically found in other accounting, law, or consulting firms.
Position Summary
The Intern uses business and accounting acumen, in conjunction with the responsibilities outlined below, to support:
Preparation of U.S. Federal and State motor fuels tax return filings,
Tax technical research surrounding motor fuels tax, registration, and filing requirements,
Implementation and maintenance of tax automation software and data analytics tools that facilitate motor fuels tax return preparation and filing, and
His or her supervisor(s) on various projects as needed by contributing in a cooperative, respectful manner to enhance the work of others and promote a team environment.
The position duration is expected to be 6 months to 1 year with the opportunity to extend to allow long-term, part-time work experience while the Intern completes his or her degree.
Responsibilities
Tax Return Preparer
Minimal interaction with Client(s)
Able to conduct tax research with guidance
Can reconcile using Excel and following a defined process
Supports the project team to identify and resolve issues; learns to articulate needs
Able to complete technical writing assignments with guidance
Experience and Technical Skills
0-2 years of professional experience in accounting, information technology (IT) or management information systems (MIS)
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel
Education Required
Minimum: Junior or Senior college student pursuing Bachelor’s degree in accounting, information technology (IT) or management information systems (MIS) or a Master’s degree in accounting
Must have 60 completed credit hours
Preferred GPA: 3.2+
